Call for Papers
SPECIAL ISSUE: FESTIVAL TOURISM
International Journal of Culture, Tourism and Hospitality Research
Special Issue Editors: T.C. Huan, National Penghu University, ROC, Chih-Hsien Hsu,
Asia University, ROC, and Bing Pan, College of Charleston, USA
Deadline for submission: 15 June 2010
This special issue is to encourage consideration of principles and practices regarding
festival tourism. A broad range of research on festival tourism is appropriate for
submission. Papers may be either conceptual or empirical. All papers should include a
comprehensive review and analysis of the literature and an elaboration on research
strategy. Conceptual papers are expected to provide strong arguments and new
theoretical perspectives on festival tourism. Empirical papers may have a case study focus.
Empirical papers must cover methodological issues; have a focused discussion of
empirical findings with appropriate conclusions; and cover policy, planning or
management implications. Submissions can be based on data for one case study but
research must have broad implications or applications relating to other cases of festival
tourism. In other words, studying a case without clear and important ramifications being
developed for theory or methodology is not acceptable.
Possible topics are the following:
• Improving viability of festival tourism (e.g., by tuning offerings to markets)
• Research methodology for studying festival tourism
• Theoretical or practical implications from consideration of festival tourism in
different countries or regions
• Innovation that works in providing, changing, marketing festival tourism
regarding sport, musical, culture, and so on (description of innovation and its
justification as working)
